Carbon Footprints

Last week, Wired published a Vulcan Project map which plotted total carbon emissions in 100 square kilometer chunks. It looked very much like a population density map, and I was mildly surprised to see the vast sea of red over the Twin Cities metro area because it put us on a par with cities such as Houston and Detroit. So much for clean living in Minnesota! Well, Wired has published a second map that shows American per-capita carbon dioxide emissions. The difference is startling; it’s almost a reversal, with the heaviest per-capita carbon emissions firmly located in the West.
